About

Nellie Pitts – Milliner

Knowledge – After studying art and photography at Richmond Upon Thames college, Nellie utilised none of that knowledge to embark on a career in catering, hospitality and, for 15 years, rock ‘n’ roll tour managing and running her own music merchandise mail order business.

Re-Invention – The 2020 pandemic largely put paid to all that, the entertainment industry was devastated, so she decided to revisit her creative past to pursue a life long desire to become a milliner, training with Katherine Elizabeth at her Millinery and Business  Academy and attending workshops with other celebrated milliners to learn age old hat making skills and techniques of the craft.

Distorted Perfection – Nellie’s intention is to create a technically precise piece but present it with a slightly twisted edge, using sinamay, felt, buckram and more modern thermoplastics. Hats can be decorated with almost anything, including feathers, flowers, leaves, wire, twigs, silks, buttons, recycled materials. The possibilities are endless.

Desire – All items are bespoke and handmade to order, although featured hats can be purchased. Clients are invited to discuss their occasion, outfit and specifications so that their perfect headpiece can be created.
